Apropos of my bro’s comment last night:
(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding
by Nick Lowe
As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin’ for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside,
There’s one thing I wanna know:
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding?
And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
‘Cause each time I feel it slippin’ away, just makes me wanna cry.
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding?
So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
‘Cause each time I feel it slippin’ away, just makes me wanna cry.
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What’s so funny ’bout peace love & understanding?
Cool Dan. I really like that song. I first heard Elvis Costello play this song on St. Valentine’s Day in 1979, in a small club on the Bowery. There were only about 150 or so persons in the audience and this guy and his band “The Attractions” were rocking. They played a one hour set and blew out of there. Years later I found out that Nick Lowe had produced at least some of Elvis Costello’s recordings and was the author of the above song. I heard his recording of it a few years ago and find it heartbreaking. It was especially poignant on Sunday-9/11. Dawn had never heard it and actully started to tear up while listening. Anyway thanks for putting this up.
