A long day, from Craig, Colorado, to Lincoln, Nebraska. Long by my 2007 standards, anyway. Something like 700 miles, through Rocky Mountain National Park and then blasting across the Plains. Many sightings. Here’s one, from Benkelman, Nebraska. Somewhere, Mary Alice Brekke is smiling that one of her offspring crossed paths with the beloved Ward Bond.

Did you visit the Ward Bond Memorial Park there in Benkelman?
Nope. It was nearly dark, Benkelman is just off the main road, and we motored on through. We did stop at the Custer “point of historical interest” there, though.
Ward Bond died in 1960. How many people outside Benkelman even remember who the heck he was?
He lived on in reruns at our house and everyone has seen It’s a Wonderful Life.
