Consultant Warns of Stupidity

From MSNBC, by way of J.P. Brekke:

“DENVER – Former FEMA Director Michael Brown, heavily criticized for his agency’s slow response to Hurricane Katrina, is starting a disaster preparedness consulting firm to help clients avoid the sort of errors that cost him his job.

” ‘If I can help people focus on preparedness, how to be better prepared in their homes and better prepared in their businesses — because that goes straight to the bottom line — then I hope I can help the country in some way,’ Brown told the Rocky Mountain News. …

“Brown said officials need to ‘take inventory’ of what’s going on in a disaster to be able to answer questions to avoid appearing unaware of how serious a situation is.’

The guy’s his own straight man.

  1. The AP covered this in a rather dry way. The Guardian was a bit caustic and sarcastic. No surprise there. Considering his various career paths I have to wonder if Brown was ever trampled by an Arabian horse.

  2. I read this one in the Tribune, couldn’t believe my eyes. Then he said “. . . be able to answer questions to avoid appearing unaware . . .” and I figured the consulting gig was just to keep clients from looking as unaware as he had in August/September, though all would be allowed to remain blissfully ignorant.

  3. More good news for Brownie! Yesterday it was announced he’s been chosen as commercial spokesman for a new specialty line: Mike Bilandic Shovels. His commanding presence closes each spot with “…because snow doesn’t shovel itself, does it?”

  4. AND–you didn’t hear it from me– rumor is NBC is considering naming “The Spokesman” (Trademark applied for) its Parade Unpleasantness Correspondent.
